update! :)
I've been here just over a month, and it still feels like I'm just visiting. It's taken me a while to get settled in, and to be honest -- I'm still trying to! It's crazy fun being in a new place, but things are still pretty hectic. As I'm sure you've heard, there are over 5,000 evacuees from Hurricane Katrina here in Austin, and it looks like most of them plan on staying here for a while. Good for them - bad for people like me who moved here with hopes of being employed fairly quickly. I am waiting tables at a really nice restraunt for now, and hoping to network enough to get my foot in the door at one of the fine companies that call Austin home.Other than the lack of promising jobs out there right now, everything else is awesome. The people here are so nice, the city is gorgeous, and there are so many things to do! I'm not sure that I'll ever see ALL that this place has to offer, but I'm going to try really hard. So far, I've been to a couple UT tailgate parties, dined on Lake Austin, went to the Austin City Limits Festival, and of course have partied on 6th street. and 5th. and 4th.*a-hem*I was a bit over whelmed when I first arrived here because I've never lived in a city where they have actual freeways to drive on. My poor little Tulsan mind was a little bit blown, but now I'm adjusting quite well. The traffic here is terrible, but I'm learning to deal with it. You just push a little harder on the gas pedal! The city itself is really quite pretty. Driving from one end to the other, you go from typical city scenery to what they call "hill country." It really is neat to have the best of both worlds so close. I have seen some pretty people scenery, too. I think I fell in love-at-first-sight at least 4 times this past weekend. Gooooodness. Our apartment is coming along, and should be pretty well finished within a month or so. I've yet to furnish my bedroom other than a bed, a nightstand, and a tv - so it's pretty bare right now. The living room, kitchen, and dining rooms are all pretty well finished, though - so it actually looks like an apartment these days. Our couches were delivered after being here for nearly 3 weeks, and up until then - we were sitting on blow up furniture! Apparently the furniture was coming from Atlanta and got lost??Anyway, at this point there's not a whole lot of excitement around here. Really just trying to get a feel for this new place, and get on my feet. Below is a link to the pictures I've taken here so far, so you can see some of what I've been talking about. I'm hoping to be back and in action as far as the blog world goes... but it might be a few weeks yet. It's hard when you don't have a job where you sit in front of the PC all day long! :) have a great week...
